Using Gmail with Infomaniak: Forwarding and POP/IMAP Fetching

The InfoSwitch Team 22 janvier 2026 8 min read

You have an Infomaniak email address but prefer the Gmail interface? Or you\'re gradually migrating and want to keep Gmail running in parallel? This guide shows you all the methods to use Gmail with your Infomaniak emails.

Recommendation

If you chose Infomaniak for data privacy, using Gmail as an interface routes your emails through Google\'s servers. For true sovereignty, use Infomaniak webmail or a local email client.

The 3 Available Methods

Method Advantages Disadvantages Best For
Forwarding Simple, real-time Copy at Google Quick centralization
POP Fetching Import into Gmail 1h delay, no sync Gradual migration
IMAP in Gmail True synchronization More complex setup Permanent use

Method 1: Email Forwarding

Forwarding automatically transfers all emails received at your Infomaniak address to Gmail.

Configure Forwarding on the Infomaniak Side

  1. Log in to Infomaniak Manager
  2. Go to "Mail Service" → Select your domain
  3. Click on the relevant email address
  4. "Forwarding" section
  5. Add your Gmail address (e.g., yourname@gmail.com)
  6. Choose whether to keep a local copy
  7. Save

Forwarding Options

  • With local copy – The email also stays in your Infomaniak mailbox
  • Without local copy – The email is only forwarded to Gmail

Tip

Keep a local copy during the transition phase. You can disable it later once everything is working smoothly.

Send from Gmail with Your Infomaniak Address

To send replies from your professional address:

  1. In Gmail, click the gear icon → "See all settings"
  2. "Accounts and Import" tab
  3. "Send mail as" section → "Add another email address"
  4. Enter your name and Infomaniak address (e.g., contact@yourdomain.com)
  5. Uncheck "Treat as an alias"
  6. Configure the Infomaniak SMTP server:
    • SMTP Server: mail.infomaniak.com
    • Port: 587
    • Username: your full email address
    • Password: your email password
    • Secure connection: TLS
  7. Gmail will send a confirmation email to your Infomaniak address
  8. Click the confirmation link (or enter the code)

Set as Default Address

To send from your professional address by default:

  1. Go back to Settings → Accounts and Import
  2. Next to your Infomaniak address, click "make default"

Method 2: POP Fetching in Gmail

Gmail can fetch emails directly from your Infomaniak server.

Enable POP on the Infomaniak Side

POP is enabled by default on Infomaniak mailboxes. The settings are:

  • POP Server: mail.infomaniak.com
  • Port: 995
  • Security: SSL/TLS

Configure Fetching in Gmail

  1. In Gmail, go to Settings → "Accounts and Import"
  2. "Check mail from other accounts" section → "Add a mail account"
  3. Enter your Infomaniak address
  4. Select "Import emails from my other account (POP3)"
  5. Configure:
    • Username: your full email address
    • Password: your email password
    • POP Server: mail.infomaniak.com
    • Port: 995
    • Check "Always use a secure connection (SSL)"
  6. Recommended options:
    • Keep a copy of the retrieved message on the server
    • Label incoming messages (e.g., "Infomaniak")
  7. Gmail will then offer to configure sending (follow the steps from Method 1)

Fetching Delay

Gmail fetches POP accounts approximately every hour. It\'s not instant. For urgent emails, forwarding (Method 1) is preferable.

Method 3: IMAP in Gmail (Gmailify)

Gmail can connect via IMAP to your Infomaniak account for true bidirectional synchronization.

Prerequisites

This feature (Gmailify) is not available for all providers. Infomaniak is not directly supported, but you can work around this limitation.

Alternative: Use an Email Client

For true IMAP synchronization, consider using:

  • Gmail mobile app – Supports adding IMAP accounts
  • Apple Mail – Native IMAP configuration
  • Outlook – Works perfectly with IMAP
  • Thunderbird – Free and powerful client

Infomaniak IMAP Settings

Setting Value
IMAP Server mail.infomaniak.com
IMAP Port 993
Security SSL/TLS
SMTP Server mail.infomaniak.com

Configure the Gmail Mobile App (IMAP)

The Gmail app on smartphones allows adding external IMAP accounts.

On Android

  1. Open the Gmail app
  2. Tap your avatar → "Add another account"
  3. Select "Other"
  4. Enter your Infomaniak address
  5. Choose "Personal (IMAP)"
  6. Enter your password
  7. Configure the servers (see table above)
  8. Complete the setup

On iPhone

  1. Open the Gmail app
  2. Tap your avatar → "Add another account"
  3. Select "Other (IMAP)"
  4. Enter your information and server details
  5. Confirm

Which Method Should You Choose?

Choose forwarding if:

  • You want to centralize everything in Gmail quickly
  • You don\'t need access to old email history
  • Email privacy isn\'t critical

Choose POP fetching if:

  • You\'re migrating gradually
  • You want to import old emails
  • A one-hour delay is acceptable

Choose IMAP (mobile app) if:

  • You want true synchronization
  • You use multiple devices
  • You want to keep emails on the Infomaniak server

Common Issues and Solutions

Gmail Refuses the SMTP Connection

Solutions:

  • Verify the port is 587 (not 465)
  • Make sure TLS is selected (not SSL)
  • Check your password
  • If 2FA is enabled on Infomaniak, create an app password

Emails Are Not Being Fetched

Solutions:

  • Verify that POP is enabled on the Infomaniak side
  • Wait up to 1 hour (Gmail doesn\'t fetch in real time)
  • Check the login credentials

Sent Emails Go to the Recipient\'s Spam

Solutions:

  • Verify that SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records are correctly configured on your domain
  • These records must authorize Infomaniak servers

Conclusion

It\'s entirely possible to use Gmail as an interface for your Infomaniak emails. The simplest method is forwarding combined with SMTP configuration for sending.

However, keep in mind that this setup routes your emails through Google\'s servers, which may conflict with your privacy goals if you chose Infomaniak for that reason.

For the best experience with your data in Switzerland, Infomaniak webmail or a local email client (Thunderbird, Apple Mail) remain the best options.
