You've decided to move your cloud storage from OneDrive to kDrive? Excellent decision for privacy and budget. This complete guide walks you through every step, whether you have 10 GB or 2 TB to move.
Before You Start: Audit Your OneDrive
- Total volume – How many GB/TB are you using in OneDrive?
- Shared files – Do you have files shared with colleagues or clients?
- Permissions – Who has access to what?
- Active shared links – Are any OneDrive links distributed externally?
- Synced devices – How many devices are syncing OneDrive?
Step 1: Create Your kDrive Account
- Go to infomaniak.com
- Create an Infomaniak account (free)
- Activate kDrive (15 GB free, or choose a paid plan)
- If migrating team files, create accounts for each team member
Step 2: Install the kDrive App
- Download the kDrive desktop app for your OS (Windows, Mac, Linux)
- Sign in with your Infomaniak credentials
- Choose a local sync folder
- Let kDrive sync (the folder will start empty)
Step 3: Transfer Your Files
Option A: Manual Method (Simple, Recommended)
- Open File Explorer / Finder
- Navigate to your local OneDrive folder
- Select all (Ctrl+A)
- Copy (Ctrl+C) — don't move yet
- Navigate to your local kDrive folder
- Paste (Ctrl+V)
- Wait for complete synchronisation to kDrive
Tip
Start by copying (not moving) to keep OneDrive intact during migration. Once migration is verified, you can delete the OneDrive files.
Option B: Via rclone (For Large Volumes)
- Install rclone (rclone.org)
- Configure a OneDrive source:
rclone config→ choose Microsoft OneDrive - Configure a kDrive WebDAV destination:
URL: https://drive.infomaniak.com
User: your Infomaniak email
Password: your password - Run migration:
rclone copy onedrive: kdrive: --progress
Step 4: Recreate Shared Links
OneDrive sharing links will no longer work after migration. Recreate them in kDrive:
- In kDrive web, navigate to the file/folder to share
- Right-click → Share
- Create a sharing link with the same permissions as before
- Copy and send the new links to the relevant people
Step 5: Verify and Validate
- Verify file count matches between kDrive and OneDrive
- Open a few random files to verify integrity
- Test access from another device or browser
- Verify Office files open correctly with OnlyOffice
