Configure Thunderbird with Infomaniak: Complete Guide

Mozilla Thunderbird is a free, open-source email client available on Windows, Mac, and Linux. It supports IMAP perfectly and has native CalDAV/CardDAV integration since version 102. It\'s an excellent choice for using your Infomaniak account.

Automatic Configuration (Recommended)

Thunderbird usually detects Infomaniak settings automatically:

Launch the Wizard

On first launch, Thunderbird offers to add an account. Otherwise: Menu → New → Existing Mail Account

Your name (displayed to recipients), Infomaniak email address, Password

Verify that IMAP is selected (not POP3). Click "Done."

Applying Manual Configuration

  1. In the wizard, click "Manual config"
  2. Enter the settings from the table above
  3. Click "Re-test" to verify
  4. If everything is green, click "Done"

Setting Up the Calendar (CalDAV)

Since Thunderbird 102, the calendar is natively integrated with CalDAV support.

Add Your Infomaniak Calendar

  1. Click the Calendar icon (or Ctrl+Shift+C)
  2. In the left panel, right-click → New Calendar
  3. Choose On the Network
  4. Select CalDAV
  5. Enter the URL: https://caldav.infomaniak.com/calendars/YOUR_EMAIL/
  6. Enter your credentials when prompted
  7. Name the calendar and choose a color
  8. Click Subscribe

Finding the Exact URL

Log in to Infomaniak webmail, go to Calendar, and click on the calendar settings to find the exact CalDAV URL.

Setting Up Contacts (CardDAV)

Thunderbird also supports CardDAV for syncing your contacts:

  1. Click the Address Book icon
  2. Menu FileNewRemote Address Book
  3. Enter the URL: https://carddav.infomaniak.com/addressbooks/YOUR_EMAIL/
  4. Enter your credentials
  5. Name the address book
  6. Confirm

Recommended Settings

IMAP Folders

Configure special folders to match the server:

  1. Right-click on your account → Settings
  2. Copies & Folders section
  3. Map:
    • Drafts → Drafts (on server)
    • Sent → Sent
    • Archives → Archive
    • Templates → Templates

Synchronization

To have Thunderbird keep a local copy of emails:

  1. Right-click on the account → Settings
  2. Synchronization & Storage section
  3. Check "Keep messages for this account on this computer"
  4. Select the folders to synchronize

Automatic Checking

  1. Account Settings → Server Settings
  2. Set "Check for new messages every X minutes"
  3. 5 minutes is a good compromise

Email Signature

  1. Account Settings → Main section
  2. Check "Use HTML"
  3. Write your signature in the text area

SSL Certificate Error

If Thunderbird displays a certificate error:

  • Verify you\'re using mail.infomaniak.com
  • Make sure your system date/time is correct

Unable to Send Emails

  • Check the SMTP settings (port 465 with SSL or 587 with STARTTLS)
  • Make sure SMTP authentication is enabled
  • Check whether your ISP blocks port 25/465/587

Calendar Not Syncing

  • Check the CalDAV URL (replace YOUR_EMAIL with your actual address)
  • Try deleting and recreating the calendar
  • Verify your credentials
